Karlee is an ArtPrize visitor, reflecting on her experience seeing "Crowns of Courage" by Amanda Gilbert, David Burgess, and Steven Stone at DeVos Place Convention Center. The piece landed in the Public Vote Final 20 list during ArtPrize Nine in 2017.
No art has moved me to tears like ["Crowns of Courage"], the Henna Tattoo's on the women who were cancer survivors. Part of this might have been that I knew the family of one of the young girls and watched them promote the ArtPrize entry in the weeks leading up to the event. Her story touched me as well as the others I heard about when I visited the exhibit.
In all the years I've visited ArtPrize, I've never seen anyone standing at an exhibit to talk to people. The women standing at the Henna Tattoo photographs shared some of the stories and brought to life the true meaning behind the art.
