Marjorie Lewis is an ArtPrize visitor, reflecting on her experience releasing lanterns during "Lights in the Night" by Mark Carpenter and Dan Johnson, during ArtPrize 2012.
I came to ArtPrize thinking I would be going home by 4:30 or so because I hadn’t had much sleep the night before. But a wayfarer at the Grand Rapids Art Museum told us there would be a lantern release at the bridge that night. I got some good coffee at Madcap and made it through the day with energy to spare, and found the experience to be one I will never forget.
The lanterns were fulfilling to release, and so many went up in such a beautiful way that they made me think of bubbles in champagne! The sky was full of them rising above the buildings being carried up higher & higher into the air.
A real peak experience!
